Eczema Exploited

Researchers at theLeiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research (LACDR) in collaboration with the Leiden University Medical Center have recently made significant progress in the study of atopic eczema. Their studies suggest that the skin of patients suffering from atopic eczema differs substantially in lipid composition compared to patients without this skin disease and that these changes in lipid composition correlate with a reduction in skin barrier. These findings were presented at the annual LACDR symposium by one of the researchers–Jeroen van Smeden – who won both the jury and the audience price for these findings.
